We received an urgent message from Mrs. Kusiwaa Khadijah, the Headmistress of the St. Stephen’s R/C Primary School in Bodomase, in the Ashanti Region, stating: “Please it is very urgent since we are entering into raining season in Ghana because the current situation of the classroom building threatening the lives of the teachers and the students since our school is a basic school so we don’t want to lose any of the little ones and that is why we are appealing to you to support us to renovate the classroom building and again whenever is about to rain we closed the school for students and teachers to ran for their lives into their various houses to ensure the building will not collapse and fell on them which is affecting the teaching and learning. Please teachers always complained about their inability to complete their syllabus due to the critical situation of the current classroom because we have to close the school be it rain or heavy wind blowing to save lives making things difficult and unhealthy for both teachers, students and parents which to me is affecting the nation Ghana as a whole.”

She also sent a picture of the classrooms, that clearly showed the need of a new roof. That is the reason why we decided to help this school. Help Ghana supported the purchase of the materials and the local craftsmen promised to build the roof for free. During the preparations of the construction of the roof, it was discovered that the foundation needed improvement as well. Also the inside of the classrooms were given a small make-over to improve the learning environment for the children. Help Ghana supported the purchase of the materials, the local craftsmen voluntarily helped with the work and the community paid for some of the extra costs.
