Located in the Kpando Municipality of Ghana’s Volta Region, for a long time the farming community of Sovie Kudzra has been facing challenges in access to basic social amenities, including clean water. The two manual boreholes that were at place in Sovie Kudzra unfortunately broke down and all attempts to repair it were in vain. Farmers within the area mostly depended on rainfall for the production of their crops, causing economic hardship and limited access to other basic provisions such as education and health care facilities. Besides, due to the poor quality of alternative water sources, health issues among the community rapidly increased.
The Social Innovation and Poverty Relief Initiative (SIPRI) reached out to Help Ghana to ask for support in establishing new boreholes in Sovie Kudzra. SIPRI aims to come up with innovative ways to tackle systemic causes of poverty and is experienced in rehabilitating boreholes. Therefore, Help Ghana trusted SIPRI with a donation of € 1,830. Thanks to this contribution, SIPRI was able to grant the community of Sovie Kudzra two new boreholes, which they happily received.
