Early 2024, Help Ghana received an application from the Vulnerable Aid Organization (VAO). VAO is a small charity organization in Ghana that focuses on the empowerment of deprived rural communities. This includes the improvement of general health care facilities, such as sanitary provisions. VAO identified a lack of sanitary provisions at the Obanda-Ando Primary School, located in the Nkwanta South Municipality of the Volta Region. As a result, both pupils and teachers engaged in open defecation, causing several communicable diseases such as typhoid, diarrhea, and cholera among pupils. Obviously, this negatively affected the academic performance of pupils.
To support VAO’s goal to provide three newly constructed toilets at the Obanda-Ando Primary School, Help Ghana gladly donated € 2,000. This allowed VAO to start with the first phase of construction in April, in close cooperation with the Nkwanta South Municipality.
