Help Ghana connected Fairspirit with our country manager in Ghana, who set up, guided, and evaluated this basic income pilot locally. The funding for the project came entirely from Fairspirit. Together they created a Basic Income Group for ten female entrepreneurs to explore how a small daily income might improve their living conditions, to test the practical use of GoodDollars, and to gather insights for possible future rounds.
Each woman received 10,600 GoodDollars per day, roughly one US dollar, and was free to decide how to use it. A similar amount went to the local coordinator to ensure the technology worked properly and to support the participants as needed.
The three-month pilot produced encouraging results. Several women expanded their business inventory, including items for small shops, resale goods, or tools for their trade. Others used the income to pay school fees, and two invested in their own education. A notable outcome is that three women were able to purchase a sewing machine, strengthening their work as seamstresses.
Based on these positive outcomes, preparations are now underway for a next group of participants. More information about Fairspirit, who made this project possible, can be found on their website.
