Kumawu Technical Institute in the Ashanti Region plays a key role in training young people. Recently, the school asked for our support to improve their large assembly hall, a central meeting place for students and staff. Previously, the hall had a simple sand floor that became dusty in the dry season and muddy when it rained, making the space difficult to use year-round.
Under the guidance of the staff, the students, both boys and girls, took the lead: they learned how to lay a cement floor and completed the entire project within a week. Thanks to their efforts, the hall can now be used throughout the year, and new door and window frames make the adjoining office spaces safer and more practical. This project not only improved the facilities but also provided the students with valuable hands-on experience that will benefit them throughout their careers.
At the same time, we received a request from the Technology Solution Centre, a smaller training centre in Kumawu, for additional materials for their fashion programme, such as sewing machines and worktables. During a visit by Emmanuel and Pleun, the opportunities for collaboration between the two schools were discussed: they offer similar programmes and could pool knowledge, teachers, and resources. Both the director of KTI and the director of the Technology Solution Centre responded enthusiastically to the idea and have promised to stay in contact to discuss how this collaboration can be best implemented for the benefit of the students.
In this way, Kumawu can not only improve the facilities of individual schools but also combine the strengths of local training centres, allowing even more young people to develop practical skills and put them to use for a successful future.
