We know the Baanuasi Junior High School and they know us! Their first application was received in 2006, then for the primary school, for the completion of the building. In 2010, a request was made for help with the completion of classrooms for the secondary school. This project was completed in 2012 and the classrooms are now being used intensively. Nkenkaasu is located in the Ashanti region, on the road from Kumasi to Techiman and has over 13,000 inhabitants. The population consists of about 90% farmers.
In 2013, the headmaster, the Parents and Teachers Association and the village council asked us for books for the pupils: English, mathematics, ICT and social studies, among others, are on the program for the various school years and for the local language Twi to teach! The books remain the property of the school and are loaned to the students annually. There is a fine of three times the purchase price for theft. A special night watchman has also been appointed to prevent theft of school materials.
The previous activities in this village were exemplary projects: a personal contribution from the teachers’ and parents’ council, fast and adequate feedback to our questions, quick completion of the construction and an enthusiastic response when everything was put into use.
Thanks to the proceeds of a sponsored walk from a primary school in Goes, a contribution from the Preuvenemint in Maastricht and Albert Heijn in The Hague, we were able to support this project for an amount of € 7,328. Books were purchased for all primary and secondary school students.
